Premium Rush [Life Begins At The Edge of Reality]

Life Begins At The Edge Of Your Comfort Zone [Feel the Rush]

How often do you go outside your comfort zone? And when you do it. Do you do it out of fear or for the rush? We should all do it more often. Because it’s then that life happens and you are going forward on your journey. Happy hunting!

I’ve just been watching the movie Premium Rush. Wow what “A Ride” (Pun intended). I spent the whole movie jumping up and down, heart racing and shouting out loud. Maybe it’s just me. I’ve been riding my bike almost everyday my whole life just for fun. I also worked as a bike messenger  in my hometown Halmstad. So maybe that’s why I get such a Kick from watching this movie. I also went to New York for first time this spring and revisiting many places here also get my mind “racing”. Joseph Gordon-Levitt does almost all of the cycling himself and it’s just crazy. Just see it with the rush in mind 🙂

What Is Real? [How Do You Define Real?]

What makes you feel real? We all know that the reality we perceive around us is just a very complex picture painted by our brain using an incredible rich amount of sensory data in form of firing synapses. It’s a marvel that our brain deceives us by making this picture seem so normal and “Real”.

“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.” — Philip K. Dick

When we enter the brain-state we are in when doing a full rush on a bike ride, like in the movie Premium Rush. Everything just seem so much more real, when we are in that state of mind. “Open up the pores and take it all in” like Jason Silva says. So why does so few of us do it for “Real”? We should all do it more often! Put ourselves in a state of Premium Rush. It’s also the way I feel when I dance really, really intense to House and Hardstyle music. I activate the Hive-Switch in my brain, like Jonathan Haidt calls it.

Let’s Dance! Let’s Rock n Roll!

“How do you define real?” — Morheus

Here is my attempt I made over 15 years ago after being inspired by movies like Ghost in the Shell:

R e a
l i t y
Online with your brain
On track with your senses
In focus with your mind
In aim with your dreams
In contact with your body
In phase with Reality
In thoughts we wander
In chaos we exist
In truth we believe
To destiny we yield
In information trust
In Reality we live

Feel The Quickening [Expand Your Reality Together]

The world is full of wonder. Much of it is destroyed every day. Never to return to Earth. Let’s fight for a better tomorrow! Take that step. Feel the rush when you are dangling close to the Edge. It’s called life! Go out and live it! Dance the Night Away. Sprint in Sunlight, Moonlight or Rain on your favorite vehicle [Shoes included]. The Adrenalin pumping in your veins. Your heart pounding.

Feel the Quickening!

And do it together!

The Great Masquerade [We Must Change the Game!]

This is part of my series of The Game of Life: The Great Masquerade. Where I share my thoughts about how we can change all the “Games” we are playing in our societies. How can we make the Games more co-op. And what defines that you “Win” in life. Please feel free to share your thoughts.

Masquerade in Revenge

What masks are you wearing? [Know thyself]

Have been seeing the Masquerade episode of Revenge tonight. It’s a very Meta since Amanda Clark are in fact playing a role herself all the time Masquerading as Emily Thorne.

All too often, we mask the truth in artifice, concealing ourselves for fear of losing the ones we love or prolonging a deception for those we wish to expose. We hide behind that which brings us comfort from pain and sadness or use it to repel a truth too devastating to accept. — Emily Thorne

When thinking of yesterdays post about Empathy I directly connect today’s post to the roleplaying part. What roles do we play in all social situations? Even if “You” aren’t doing anything your subconscious brain is full at work with fitting you in to your current tribe. Some are bad and others are very good at this Social Game that our brains play for or with us. Vanity is born into us.

Let the Masquerade commence [Who are you playing?]

They say that Life is defined by the roles we play. And if you joined us this hallowed evening, it can only mean you’ve played them well.
So Tonight leave your identities at the door, let our spirits inspire yours and may your ornate facades lead you to intrigue.
Let the Masquerade commence — Victoria Grayson

Even if you are trying to project your true self on the world you are still perceived through filters of reality when in contact with other persons.  You can never leave The Matrix.

Every human being has the responsibility to find the truth for one selfRainn Wilson

But when living in The Matrix we all have the responsibility to find and know our True Self. When you know thyself it is much easier to project your own Residual Self Image. All your actions is a form of Storytelling you do to portray that image. And even your own brain is telling this story for you. Start listening to what really is happening. Then you can get a chance of help the direction of your own actions. But remember that you only project yourself through the interfaces of your own body. Here modern media like the written langue and recently recorded audio and video has greatly increased our way to communicate our true self into the world. But it is still only a crude image.

There are countless ingredients that make up the human body and mind.
Like all the components that make up me as an individual with my own personality.
Sure, I have a face and voice to distinguish myself from others.
But my thoughts and memories are unique only to me.
And I carry a sense of my own destiny.
Each of those things are just a small part of it.
I collect information to use in my own way
All of that blends to create a mixture that forms me and gives rise to my conscience.
I feel confined, only free to expand myself within boundaries. — Major Motoko Kusanagi

Name Your Excuse!

I saw this classic XKCD strip on top of my Tumblr flow:

Our Own Personal Matrix

We are all stuck inside our heads with no way of knowing what kind “Matrix” we are living in. For Real! But the what does the word “Real” mean anyway? What is Real? 😉

Which leads me to to the image

There Free Beer in a Human Trap

I saw this sign earlier this week at a “Free” event. I was there with @JohanLange and @MikuMaria at It Innovations Expo 2013. And even if it we didn’t pay it’s was far from free. We invested lot of time and energy to be there. And it was worth it.

My instant reaction to the sign was:

“There is Free Beer in a Human Trap”

This reflection comes from Dan Ariely’s speech “Free Beer: The truth about dishonesty” about “How We Lie to Everyone – Especially Ourselves”

“The Truth” is such curious Human concept. The Truth can never be told but a mere “Truthy Tale” of what happened in the past. This is from my blog about Your Story

“Truth is a battle of perceptions. People only see what they’re prepared to confront. It’s not what you look at that matters but what you see. And when different perceptions battle against one another, the truth has a way of getting lost. And the monsters find a way of getting out.” — Emily Thorne

We lie when we think we can get away with it and when it will not cost us any Reputation with the group. We also lie because our StoryTelling brains can only tell stories. Truthy or not.

We share for Reputaion

Here is Johan Lange’s Bambuser recording of the free speech. He does not agree with the speaker nor do I.

We share things on the internet because we think that it will gives us a good reputation and good status. This is what most of our big social brains occupy much time with. Sharing for free isn’t that either. Sometimes we invest considerable time and effort into something we want to share and give away. We just hope this investment is worth it.

“Vi vill bli sedda, hörda och bekräftade. Alla människor fiskar efter Feedback.” — @JohanLange

We all want to appear to pull our weight in the groups we are living in. We will gladly do “free” work and share stuff on the internet for this reason. We also do this because it makes us feel productive according to the principles of PERMA.

Brain -> Reality -> The Truth -> Reputation -> Free Work -> Feedback -> Brain

And Yes. I have seen an episode of Revenge this evening to jump-start my brain.

“They say the best laid plans often go awry
Because no matter how detailed the preparation
A plan will always have weak point
And there will always be those looking to exploit it
To doom a plan to failure
And the perpetrator along with it

Every plan has a fatal flaw
Sometimes it’s the heart
Even in those who are supposed to be the most careful
But a careful nature doesn’t always ensure success
When a plan is built on an unstable foundation
Failure is not only a possibility — It’s a certainty”
— Emily Thorne in Revenge, {Sabotage}

Well my plan certainly wasn’t to stay up this late to write this. But I wouldn’t call it a failure.
