Together

Together

One Word?

What is your one word?

Today, Tonight or Tomorrow? It may change over time. Form month to month or from hour to hour. But right now, what is your one word that you live by?

For me it’s Together!

It sums up one of my craziest weeks ever with a finale in tears of joy at Urban Burn.

Four Two (42) – We Do It Together

I knew from the beginning, that this week would be another milestone in my life. That I would turn out transformed in the end of it. And by that I mean more transformed than usual. It was week full of excitement, inspiration, realisations and love. The great finale was the Urban Burn event in Stockholm.

As I finished it, by watching Avengers: Age Of Ultron, with Sara Modig’s husband and children, one word really stood out: Together. It’s the word Captain America uses several times to describe how to face an unseemingly large challenge. And how I, as Captain Future, would like us to face the future. We face it together! This is the third time I watch Age of Ultron and it was even better this time, filled with so many parallels to our challenges. The best movie of 2015 for me. Check out what I wrote last time about it: We Save the World Together, as I filled a whole page with my takeaways. And it also couples together with the theme of the next Captain America movie: Civil WarDivided We Fall. But United We

Ultron: How do you hope to stop me?
Tony Stark: Like the old man said, Together.

Together [Tillsammans] was also the theme of this week’s Pecha Kucha I did in Varberg. More on that below.

My Crazy Week of Together

“Peace In Our Time” – Tony Stark

The week stared on Sunday. I joined in the closing ceremony for a year and half long project here in Varberg called Varberg Calling for Peace. A project that Jon & Malin, who I talk to in my podcast Framtidspodden, has facilitated. It’s project that have brought modern thinking into how we create the peaceful creative society we want. It’s been done by coordinating lots of small and big events. Often through open creative meetings they call: Open Call. Where everyone can participate in innovating the events we want to create. Since we didn’t want the energy to end we had an event where everyone could write down something on a big yellow pilates-ball. That we then passed on to someone who was tasked in keeping the idea or event alive. Mine was to create The Future-Dojo, that I have talked about before. Where we gather a lot of creative activities together in one big creative mesh. Like an incubator, a co-corcing place, a cafe, a mentor center, a Future Center, a MakerSpace, a playground and son on with lots of activities like Hackathons and Lunch-beats. The sky is the limit.

Malin - Sillion - Jon Varberg Calling for Peace - A Future-Dojo

Malin – Sillion – Jon Varberg Calling for Peace – A Future-Dojo

And I aslo believe if we are to build a better world together, it’s not just something we can do in our “spare time”, when we are not “working” for money. It has to be done in all activities in all levels of society. We have to be able to make and earn money down what the world needs. And the other way around. Not making any money when we do the wrong things unto the world.

The more people what spend their waking hours building a better world the quicker we will get there. We do it to- … wait for it … -gether 🙂

Success & Entrepreneurship

I stared my week by prepping for my Framtidslunch [Future Lunch] and my Pecha Kucha by studying John Spence and his take on Success. With the YouTube clip and my show notes.

I also visited a great lunch seminar with Jannike Åhlgren about the new incubator Potential.VBG, in my hometown Varberg. An incubator is a place where newly started businesses sit together to get a much more successful launch. It’s all about the environment. You become like the people you spend the most time with.

Success comes from being together with other awesome people!

Future Lunch [Live Your Legend Local]

On the Tuesday it was time for my Framtidslunch [Future Lunch] in Varberg. It’s a concept where awesome people get together to boost each other and have some kind of creative workshop together. It’s part of me hosting my Live Your Legend Local events here on the west coast of Sweden.

Tuesday also brings forth the International Women’s Day. It’s been a long fight to give women to become equal citizens with us men. And it’s not over. Watch the movie Suffragette. Where we can see the importance to organise and fight for change, together.

Our next lunch will be in March 22nd in Varberg with the theme pitching. And there will be a Future Party on March 31st as well.

Framtidspodden and Social Entrepreneurship

This week I also launched my 6th episode of my podcast Framtidspodden [The Future Pod]. This time it’s an episode in English the Future hero Bert-Ola Bergstrand. Check him out. He is all about solving the worlds problems with entrepreneurship and connect different clusters of creative people all over the world. So that we can learn from each other in a better way and do it together.

Authoritarianism

I also read the best article, that explains the counter forces we are facing. Like the Trump-march in the US. It’s all due to a thing called Authoritarianism. Not a thing, we want more people doing together. And we can’t fight them. The feed of fear and opposition. The best way to disarm them is by not filling the news and media with fear, like what most of massmedia does today. I’ve spoken against this for many years. Fill the news with positive things happening instead.  Solutions, not problems. By leading by example and visions. For every challenge, we answer this 3 questions:

1. What challenge are we facing?
2. What might solve it?
3. How can I help?

Hot As Hell

This winter has yet again been the hottest winter on the north pole that we know of. If we don’t do something soon together, it brings chaos, into the human world, that we don’t want. We act together for a sustainable future!

The Future is a Team Game [Tillsammans]

It’s only fitting that my topic for my 11th Pecha Kucha, I was doing this week, on an evening the theme was Tillsammans [Together]. My own topic on that theme was Framtiden är en Lagsport [The Future is a Team Game]. You can see it here if you know Swedish: Framtiden är en Lagsport.

Lord Sillion Pecha Kucha - Framtiden är en lagsport

Code Of Conduct

I also got a call from upcoming eSport LAN where they want me to talk about how we get rid of all the Toxicness that is a big challenge for all online gaming. Especial in my favorite game League of Legends. Riot Games has done a great deal to fight it of. Still there some lingering problems that is spreading across the whole of internet. Not just in eSport but on the internet as a whole.

We need a better a Code Of Conduct on how we behave in this world. A Moral Matrix that we can evolve and talk about. I will do my utmost to lift this problem to the surface in creative constructive way. As there are many more LAN-parties coming up this spring in Sweden I would like to visit as many I can and talk on all of them. So if you are an organizer and would like me to talk on your event please contact me.

We do it by being nice to each other both offline and online.

Strength – Health & Happiness — Wim Hof

I also finally watched the documentary with Wim Hof about how he can endure the cold through simple breathing techniques. Watch it here: Inside the Superhuman World of the Iceman. I have tried it a couple of times before. This time I downloaded his app and started doing the breathing exercises, with stretching and push ups. I haven’t tried showering in cold water yet. But is about time.

Wim is on a mission. A mission to give all humans more Strength – Health & Happiness. And it is something I think is very important as it will solve a lot problems in the world.

Breath Mother-Fracker!

Framtidsmaskinen and World Cafe

This Thursday I visited Framtidsmaskinen [The Future Machine] in Halmstad. It’s a fair for young entrepreneurs, coupled with a great event for us grown ups as well. We did a World Cafe event where we talked about how to make the world more creative and what we ourself, could do to make it happen… Together 🙂

We finished it of by pledging, what each and every one of us, could do. I promise to keep doing my Future Lunches twice a month and also do a Future Breakfast and a Future Party (all in the spirit of Live Your Legend) once a month.

Next Future Lunch is 22 March in Varberg

Be the SHIELD

It is finally Friday and I’m of to Stockholm to attend a large-scale indoor Burn. It’s a Burning Man event called Urban Burn. On my way there, I watched an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D season 3 where Coulson explains why he risks his life, to do, what he does. He does it to protect those who can’t, protect themselves. And the number of accepted casualties is always ZERO. They protect us, by being a great team.

“They are the reason there is a SHIELD” – Agent Coulson

SXSW – South by South West

There is also a festival going on in Austin, Texas, this week called SXSW (South by South West). It’s one of the worlds largest creative festivals. Where people get together to be inspired and get more creative energy. I’ve been longing to go for 4 years now and I promised to go next year now with Sara and others.

From this year there are at least 2 awesome keynotes from both Jane McGonigal and Barak Obama

Jane McGonigal. Jane shared her speech and I saw it on the train up to Stockholm as well. One thing stood out there as well and it was this:

“The Future is a place where everything can be different” — Jane McGonigal

We can all choose to Believe in a future that is better. And if we can imagine it, we can build it.

Time For Urban Burn

As I arrived in Stockholm I went straight to the Urban Burn festival. I was immediately welcomed, hugged and initiated with the welcome ritual. This is my first Burn and it felt completely overwhelming. Joining this creation in a participatory culture as the final pieces were put in place was exiting.

Welcome home!
Gustaf Josefsson said in his initiating speech and I cried

As everyone has to give I had figured out how was to participate. I was to give with holding to 2 session. One in a Ulab Theroy U coaching circle and the other in how we activate the Hive-Switch (Where we become more than ourselves) in out brains. Which is especially easy at a festival of this kind.

Find the Others – Coaching Circle

As I mentioned before I took the MIT MOOC: U.Lab: Transforming Business, Society, and Self this fall and are redoing the content and Coaching Circle with the same group this spring. Originally most of us where planing to go here but only Tess and I where able to make it in the end. Tess and I held a great circle with some other burners that can be summed up in phrase: Find the Others. This is big part of my Level Up! concept.

The Avatar – Mushroom Forest

Have you seen one of my favorite movies: Avatar? If you have, did you wonder what it would be like running around in the luminescent night forest? I just found out. It can’t be explained. It has to be experienced. And I did in the awesome Magical Mushroom Forest installation at Urban Burn. So cool!

Hugging

And everywhere we went we greeted each other with a hug. And the not the formal kind. Instead is was long warm loving hugs. This how I want the future to be. There were even a booth where you could Kiss A Stranger. If you wanted to. You stared into a strangers eyes for 2 minutes,, then kissing was optional. “Live a little” ❤

Rave Yoga

One of the coolest thing I experienced there was a Dance Yoga session with Christian Wigardt. Even the Downward Facing Dog was done while swaying the hips from side to side. The best yoga I have done so far.

Rave [Turning on the Hive-Switch]

And the there was the dancing together! To Rave music. The last hour of Saturday was a special gig by Jesper Lejfjord with an awesome kind of Dubstep I never heard before.

I went completely bonkers. Deep in the Hive-Switch / I love everybody – territory, I danced like I never done before.

Imagine

I one of the tents I joined in a sing along session. We did Imagine at least 4 times. My eyes filled with tears of joy. That powerful feeling when you do it together!

Hack the Future

On Sunday I went to visit the last part of the Hackathon Hack For Sweden #Hack4Swe. This was a great Hackathon with lots of creative solutions. There and on the way home I spoke to several people like Mattias Östmar and Darja Isaksson about what we can do to create more creative Hackathons.

A Hackathon not so much an event where you go to see or listen in the classical passive way. It’s a new type of event in the participatory culture category, like the Burns and the Un-conferences. Where all the attending people are participating in co-creating the event.

I think we can do a more creative type of event where we bring in people from different type of creative groups. I’m have a lot in mind like: Hackers, Coders, Designers, Cosplayers, Streamers, YouTubers (Vloggers), Entrepreneurs, Startup people, Information Officers, NERF-hackers, Steampunkers, Makers, Burners, Gamers, Geeks, LARPers, Artists, Thinkers, Bloggers, Scientists

I am fascinated with the creative power in many of these groups. Many of them are fans of pop-culture worlds and works. They in turn can have many fans them selves, from hundreds up to millions of fans. Think what that would do to an event. If you can come co-create with some your favorite idols. At first you would come there as fan and being starstruck. Then after a while that will wear off and we would actually realize that we all have our creative talents in some way. That when we work together, with different angles to view a challenge ora problem, we are much more likely to come up with new innovative solutions.

I get exited just thinking about it.

Who is with me?
How can we do this together?
For a more creative Future?

I’m Lord Sillion – I’m Captain Future

I also meet with one of my oldest friends, Ulrika. We talk about lot’s of stuff. She has been with me, on my whole 20 year journey, into the person I am today. She was the first girl who made me dare talking to girls. I was a very shy person back in 1995 when we first started studying together in Norrköping. Today she helped me thinking about what I should call myself going into my future.

Am I a?

Future Captain (Framtidskapten)
Future Strategist (Framitdsstrateg)
Future Hacker (Framtidshackare)
Future Visionary (Framtids Visionär)

Ambassador of The Future (Framtidsambassadör)

Or all of the above?

How should make a living doing all the stuff I have talk about in this post so far? And more?

I believe in a Creative Future. A future we create together. In a social participatory way.

Tony Stark: Does anybody remember when I put a missile through a portal, in New York City? We were standing right under it. We’re the Avengers, we can bust weapons dealers the whole doo-da-day, but how do we cope with something like that?
Steve Rogers: Together.
Tony Stark: We’ll lose.
Steve Rogers: We do that together too.

Follow Your Dreams

Follow Your Dreams

My Pecha Kucha:

We Are The World [Live Your Legend]

We Are The World [Live Your Legend]

We Are The World. We Are The Children

It’s as true today as it was 30 years ago. And it will be much truer in the future.

Our Planet Earth

The idea was the world is an emerging system that no one ever had any control over. Just adapt and try to play your little roles as good as you can or cower down and do what you are told. If there ever where architects that had a master plan when designing societies and the known world we will perhaps never know. What we do know, is that thanks to a brand new communications toy, we can now talk to each other all over the world instantaneously.

The question is, what do we have to talk about?

In my own personal experience I have seen a real shift this summer in conversation. For me it feels like we are on the verge on a tipping point. From my little node in the global network conversations, talking points are now far more concerning the future of life on Planet Earth.

Or maybe it’s just that hooked up with more interesting people and that my confirmation bias has tilted me to think so.

Still there are a lot of things going viral that weren’t there before. It started this summer with a fantastic pod with Johan Rockström in Swedish, that where so good that when asked to do it in English he did that too. And people has been sharing all kinds of links with Hans Rosling now in September.

It all boils down to World Climate Summit in Paris December 6th. Our Last chance to make right by all future generations to inherit Planet Earth. Join The Road To Paris 2015.

Also 21 of September is International Day of Peace. Which is close to our hearts here in Sweden as we have big UN Peace conference here in my hometown Varberg in October: Varberg Calling for Peace.

Scott Dinsmore & Live Your Legend!

This latest week has been even more intense for me. Last weekend Scott Dinsmore passed away in accident while on a hike on Kilimanjaro. He is the founder of the large Live Your Legend network all over the globe. And the community his risen up to share their condolences with his surviving wife and family. Like this one from Yazminh.  They are all in the Facebook group [Tribute to Scott Dinsmore, Founder of Live Your Legend]. And Chris Anderson decided to put Scotts now famous TEDx talk with over 2 and a half million views up on the main TED.com site.

I myself a host for Live Your Legend Local in Gothenburg and Varberg has been following Scott for 2 years now. I have eagerly awaited his Live Your Legend RAW update each week that sadly will stop coming now…

I’m so sad that you have left us Scott. You showed me a path that I didn’t think was possible.

We will continue to carry the torch for you Scott!

Scott truly embodied what is was to live a better life on Planet Earth. Let’s all honor his memory by doing the work we can’t NOT do.

Environment. Is. Everything. The fastest way to do the things you don’t think can be done is to hang around people already doing them. Choose your friends wisely and brainwash the impossible. – Scott Dinsmore

I have a longer Tribute to Scott and the Revolution coming up soon…

Un-Fuck The World [Set 17 Global Goals]

James Hanusa posted on Facebook that it’s time to Un-Fuck The World! And I signed up on that challenge! We can take the power back from all the greedy systems that using massive amounts of Earth’s resources, to no apparent use at all to further us as a species. We can become architects for all systems on Planet Earth.

I also stated a new MOOC called U.Lab: Transforming Business, Society, and Self. It’s for us Change Makers who wants to transform the world and ourself using a growth mindset. Many of us feel called now like never before. And we are spreading it on Social Media. We are more 30,000 talking this MOOC and using the hashtag #ULab.

Spread the Global Goals. Yesterday Stephen Hawking shared a really heart tearing video message about what we must do to save our home this year together by setting up  17 Global Goals that our leaders should follow.

We need Everyone to tell everyone!
The more people we talk to about it the more important it becomes.  And it truly feels the way now. Like we are on mission now. To do one thing that matters. If we don’t pull it together in 2015 we might as well through in the towel and jump ship. Jump the Spaceship Earth. Expect that we can’t just jump of Earth anytime soon and go live on Mars.

So lets just stick to Plan A. The only plan we have.
Do give ScottStephen and Rockström a listen and tell me what Plan A is for you?

Stephen Hawkin - The Global Goals

Stephen Hawking – The Global Goals

Hello Everyone. Stephen Hawking here.

2015 is the year world leaders signs up to the global goals.

They are an ambitious to-do list to eradicate poverty, save the environment and make the world a fairer place for everyone.
Where every woman and every man has the chance to live a healthy secure life full of opportunity and love.

The more people who know about them, the more likely our leaders are to stick to them.
So this is our attempt to let every person in the world to know what is at stake.
People can not hide from their rights if they do not know what the are.

I would be hugely grateful if you would share this video with your friends, family and fans and ask them to search for global goals online.
To save the world we need everyone to tell everyone.
I’m very aware of the preciousness of time. Help us seize the moment.

The time to act is now
Thank you

Smarter Than Yesterday

Have you been curios and learning something new today? If you haven’t there is no need to give up hope. Turns out that curiosity is trainable. And even learning new skills doesn’t take years if you apply the right methods according to Tim Ferriss, who has been a human guinea pig in learning new skills in the shortest amount of time. You too can chose to get better every day. The best way to do this, is to spend time with others who also Level Up! each day 🙂

I call this being a Curiosity Ninja!

Ignore Everybody [Do Learn Form Them]

Today I got inline to get some Norway Lobsters at a local fish wagon. Same place I went to yesterday when I didn’t get any because I was there to late. So I did learn and became smarter than yesterday. Some people do. Others has worked for 20 years and only have 1 year of experience to account for, i.e. they has the same 1 year of experience 20 times. This I “Read” today as I listened through the audiobook Ignore Everybody with Hugh MacLeod. I really peculiar book that isn’t for everybody. It was for me. I really like the double messages that confirms that nothing is ever black or white. Check it out: Ignore everybody and 39 Keys To Creativity.

Many people have already made the mistakes that your are about to make. You don’t have to learn form your own mistakes. You can actually learn from others 🙂

Ignore Everybody - The Blog

Ignore Everybody – The Blog

Level Up! [Make Smarter Choices]

What I’m getting at is that becoming smarter each day by learning by your own and preferably others mistakes is a choice. I choose to do things differently today to see if they turned out any better. Different is of course not always better. But without experimentation we can’t innovate and improve ourselves.

Neo , The Chosen One – Are he making decisions or are he just to understand the choices already made?
– What Choices Do You Make?

I will go back to the word “Choice”. Am I really choosing to do things different? This is a very interesting question. So interesting that I had to re-watch my absolute favourite movie on the matter tonight: The Matrix Reloaded. Did I have choice in watching it tonight or am I just to understand why I watched it again? The question of free will and if the universe is deterministic is very interesting on a human level. Mostly because this is the only level, part from some really smart mathematicians, that most humans can think on. And it’s ok. We need to think like humans and we need to become better at it all the time.

Most of us humans don’t really think about becoming better humans on a daily basis.

But what if we did?

I now feel that this is one of the things I really care about. How can we become better versions of ourself than we where yesterday? How can you? Like in a roleplaying game like World Of Warcraft where one of the main focuses is getting more experience each day so the you can increase your skills and learn new talents every week, month and year. To Level Up! This is the book I’m writing. How to Level Up! your life. By training your brain, your body and your empathy and social skills every day.

Check Tai Lopez too and his take on investing and improving yourself every day: Invest in Yourself.

Double down on your own brain and invest in yourself — Tai Lopez

I have also been reading and doing exercises in Daniel Priestley’s books, Key Person of Influence and Entrepreneur Revolution. They are all about defining yourself and all of your experiences into a clear version of yourself. One that you want to take further into life. One that others will look up to in your particular tribe and niche.

Do give Daniel a listen on his long talk on London Real.

Within the context of an environment, certain outcomes become very normal - Daniel Priestley

Become part of an environment that normalizes what ever you want to succeed with – Daniel Priestley

Do want to get a brain that sees the world in a new perspective?

Both Robert Kegan and Peter Sage both talk about another effect of pursuing knowledge and insights each day. Our brain can reach new orders of mentality and consciousness where we perceive the ourself and the world in whole new ways. Read more here and here. So by training yourself you can actually become better at training yourself. This is very good news for you. Also people will wanna hang out with you if you are a wiser person.

Find Your Fellows [Start a Level Up! Club]

The central theme in all this is to spend time with other people who also want to Level Up! their lives. Not with people who drag you down but with people who lift you up. This is sometimes hard. There are global meetups like Live Your Legend Local and online communities like London Real Academy that tries to gather people into peer groups that boost each other on a regular basis. Or start your own Level Up! Club. Start befriending people you want to have in you Level Up! club.

As for the book I mention at the top: Ignore Everybody. With it I mean Ignore Everybody except for your Level Up! Club.

And Mentors [Who Are Your Mentors?]

Try to find mentors to include in the group of people who you spent the most time with. People who are already ding things toy want to do. Listen to Geoff Woods on the subject: The Mentee. And listen to Tai Lopez TED Talk. I know this isn’t easy. I have never had a mentor in my life. And the all the mentors I have today come in the form of Books and Podcast with interesting people. Still I would like to find some real mentors and become one as well.

It’s Your Turn [And My Turn]

Tomorrow it’s my turn. It’s my turn to host one of the over 300 Live Your Legend – World Parties of 2015 in over 70 countries around the world. We are all kick starting the new year by joining in this crazy idea that blown up to be something crazy and real.

Live Your Legend – World Party 2015

Live Your Legend Local kicked of last January with a global world party then. It’s now a year later with many inspiring meetings behind us. So now we step it up. Come join us in Varberg, Sweden or find your local party if you are reading this on January 6th. Else just come to the next metope in February. Here is my take on what it is all about.

Scott Dinsmore - How to Do the Impossible

Scott Dinsmore – How to Do the Impossible

It’s about several things:

Doing The Impossible

We all see people doing impossible things. Things we could only dream of achieving. How then did they do it? And how can you? The universe is a hostile place. Here is on of my favourite quotes of all time to illustrate it. It’s from Terry Pratchett’s book Hogfather:

THERE IS A PLACE WHERE TWO GALAXIES HAVE BEEN COLLIDING FOR A MILLION YEARS, said Death, apropos of nothing. DON’T TRY TO TELL ME THAT’S RIGHT.
’Yes, but people don’t think about that,’ said Susan. Somewhere there was a bed …

CORRECT. STARS EXPLODE, WORLDS COLLIDE, THERE’S HARDLY ANYWHERE IN THE UNIVERSE WHERE HUMANS CAN LIVE WITHOUT BEING FROZEN OR FRIED, AND YET YOU BELIEVE THAT A … BED IS A NORMAL THING. IT IS THE MOST AMAZING TALENT.
’Talent?’

We humans have this amazing talent to make almost anything seem “Normal”. So the best way to make something impossible is to seek out the company of those how are already doing it. Our storytelling human minds will then quickly internalise their stories to make it our own and thus making the impossible a normal thing.

You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with - Jim Rohn

You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with – Jim Rohn

Not Being Alone

Almost all people who has ever made their dreams come alive has done so in the company and with the help of others. Other inspiring supportive people. Who all give their best to make something. So regularly hanging around and meeting people who already does the things you want to do or people who want to make their dreams come true as well, will boost you in making your dreams come true as well.

Start Dreaming and Dancing and Playing

So whether or not you have a dream you can either go find a dream or invent several new ones. It’s not really about “finding your passion”. It’s about living passionately. To get inspired by others and to inspire the people around you. And you want to be happy along the way. Happiness is not the end of your dream. Your dream will come alive if you are happy along the way. So start dreaming and playing and dancing on a daily basis. And your road or journey will become much more real and you will find it much easier to travel.

So it’s my turn to do this. It’s like Seth Godin says in his new inspiring book: It’s always my turn.

Let’s kick of 2015 into the most amazing year yet. A year of hope for the future. A year where we create our own future together.

Prime Your Brain

Visions of The Future [Part 2 of 3]

We all need visions for the future. By playing a simple trick on your brain you can “Prime” it to look out for events that will seem like serendipity to you. And since your brain can’t separate fact from fiction. You can tell stories to your brain and it will try to make them “True” 🙂
This is Part 2 of 3 about Visions of The Future.

“It doesn’t matter what you pick. It just matters that you pick. The reason people don’t wanna pick is, because then they have to claim it. You pick that? You didn’t pick this? Better to pick nothing.”

Use Storytelling [It’s the only way to remember anything]

Jenny Åkerman

Jenny Åkerman – Talking Brain Science

I have been on an interesting seminar in Gothenburg. We started out early with Jenny Åkerman giving a free public speaking about how we can use the brain to achieve what we want. She is a Swedish Brain Scientist who gave a very entertaining speech about the brain. She goes briefly into what I talked about before. That the brain stores everything as stories. It can not tell apart fact from fiction. You know when you dream and all the crazy stuff seems so real. Even flying that I do from time to time feels so normal in your dreams. I also met a new good friend on the train up and recommended the book “The Storytelling Animal” by Jonathan Gotschall to him. This is one of the best books that I have listened to. It gives you great insight into how your storytelling organ inside your skull works. Jenny mentions how use simple bizarre story to remember everything on a shopping list.

The Brain stores everything as Stories – WE just need to help it by telling better stories

A story like this can’t be ordinary for the brain to remember it. The brain remembers all new stories it are exposed to. It’s what the brain are made for. It’s what the brain lives for.

Can you be Leonardo Da Vinci? [Seven steps on the road towards an awesome mind]

Can you be anything like Leonardo Da Vinci? Jenny Talks about the myths and truths of using both sides of the brain. We should use as many centers in the brain at the same time when doing everything. We may not be as genius as Leonard but here are 7 steps that will take you closer to becoming great. They can be found in my blog: How can you be a modern Ninja. and in the audio-stream from SXSW: Design Like Da Vinci: Leonardo’s Sketching Lessons.

Step out of your Comfort-Zone [That’s when Creativity and Courage happens]

Jenny spins it further by saying that:

“All new knowledge and progress is preceded by confusion” — Jenny Åkersson

It is when the brain is confused that it steps out of its comfort-zone and try solve things in a different way that it is used to. The Brain actually likes being confused. It feels good. Think about that the next time you feel confused. This is what Peter Sengie calls Creative Tension.
The gap between vision and the current reality is called the Creative Tension. This is the space on with the magic of creativity happen.

You must be willing to leave current reality. Step out of your comfort zone towards an unknown future. A future only visualized in a dream. You must expose your art to others. Thus becoming vulnerable. Only then does creativity and empathy happen. Both Brené Brown and Seth Godin explains this well 🙂

See my blog-post on empathy: The Way of Empathy [The Beast with 2 Hearts]

Brené Brown on Vulnerability and Courage

Brené Brown on Vulnerability and Courage

In all her 12 years of research Brené Brown can not find a single example of Courage, Spiritual courage, Moral courage or Leadership courage, when someone didn’t first step out of their comfort zone and became vulnerable.

Have the courage to do what is possible. Just not convenient.

Prime Your Brain [Tell your story to your brain]

Like Jason Silva says: “You can Prime Your Brain towards a goal you want to reach”. As your brain can’t separate fact from fiction: Everything that you or someone else tell your brain makes sense. Because the Brain even can’t tell the difference between someone else talking to it or you doing the talking yourself.

Your brain is a goal achieving machine. Your subconscious is hard at work on achieving your visions and dreams of the future. So start priming your own brain, by telling your brain what visions of the future it should have in mind.

Serendipity is just that. Filling your mind with patterns on your path. To be on the lookout for. And then your subconscious mind will be on constant watch for these patterns and make them happen. So here is what you can do:

1. Start by thinking about where you are a year from now.
2. Start backtracking ever step that you took to get there. Think about the big events on the way.
3. Now think about the first step you took a year ago.
4. Start Walking, Running, Jumping, Climbing and Flying to get there!

Live Your Legend [Be true to yourself]

Scott Dinsmore among many others all say how important it is to be true to your inner self. You owe it to yourself to find your own truth in this world and live that truth. He has a project called Live Your Legend. There you can find 2 free toolkits to set a year-long plan or your weekly goals.

Look to the Moon

Look To The Moon – Run To The Hills

It’s Prime Time! [Look To The Moon & The Stars]

Who are  you a year from Now? Should we really ask questions like this? I think we must! We should not dwell on the past. But we should revisit it from time to time in order see the contrast to our present. Most of us should focus on the now. To keep things moving and operating. But some of us must make it our mission to study the past. And others must fantasize about the future and create stunning Science Fiction to inspire us all. We need all these skills.

The Past like the future does not really exist. They are both fantasies created in our minds. The Future is a probabilistic simulation we run in our minds in order to help shape the world we want to live in.
The Past unlike The Future has actually happened. The Past, as represented in our mind, is a mental simulation too. Our memories are not precise records of what actually happened. They are reconstructions of what happened. Most of us believe our memory is filled with reliable info we can access at will. Not so. But memory isn’t an outright fiction. It is merely a fictionalization of what took place. Memory is an unreliable self-serving historian. It’s there to help us make decisions that help us along for the bumpy ride that reality is.

Jonathan Gottschall from The Storytelling Animal

But even people who focus on the present benefits from priming their brain in some way. Because we need a larger goal for our modern society than Consumerism. Something to aspire to. And as we all need to be part of this vision, we all need some connectedness and some priming with the environment around us. We are not just the Animal who collects food or money on a daily basis. We are something more. And we can become so much more. We can put a Dent in the Universe!
