It’s about the Journey & The Venus Project

Jacque Fresco and Steven Pinker is two of our greatest modern thinkers

I have been listening to some more great episodes of London Real. It’s all about the Journey.

“Life is a lesson you’ll learn it when your through” — Limp Bizkit

Everything Changes

I came across them talking to the now 96 year old Jacque Fresco and the Venus Project. Check him out on London Real. Also see his speech from Stockholm 2010.

Whatever happens in the world is real, what one thinks should have happened is projection. We suffer more from our fictitious illusion and expectations of reality. — Jacque Fresco

Linguistic thinkers

They also give very good conversation with Steven Pinker. Check it out here Steven Pinker – Too Much Morality?
Steven Pinker is a linguistic who studies what it means to be human. Just like we have Fredrik Lindström here in Sweden who talks about What is a human [Vad är en människa].

In his latest book The Better Angel of our Nature he shows us, that contrary to popular belief, violence of all kinds are at a mush lower rate in human society than it have ever been during our entire history. Only the picture we get through Mass Media will tell us differently.

There is hope for us humans that we can get along in a reasonably peaceful society here on earth if the resource wars don’t get out of hand.

The Extended Mind [I need more focus]

elementary-duo

I have just seen the first episode of the new TV-Series Elementary with Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson. It has promise and I just love good Sherlock Holmes stories. And now that modern Brain Science actually confirms that his way of thinking is accurate according to Maria Konnikova.

Sherlocks_mind

Listen to the RSA talk: The Scientific Method Of The Mind: What Sherlock Holmes can teach us about decision making with Maria Konnikova.

  • To solve problems take time and reflect over them. Go into the “Wilderness” alone
  • Doing 5 minutes of Mindful Mediation each day has scientific measured effect of increased cognitive ability.
  • Use your memory right with techniques of Chucking and Storytelling.
  • Focus at the Task at hand. Multitasking is a myth.

Now I just have to see season 2 of Sherlock too. The 3 parts of season 1 was brilliant 🙂

You wanna a Piece of … me mind?

I also found this today David Chalmers from TEDxSydney talking about  The Extended Mind.

Tomorrow I’m going to to “Speak my Mind” as I’m walking with a local politician here in Varberg. So far so many of my thoughts has been circulating around the mind, reality and the future here on planet Earth. And on Friday we are talking the Sustainable city here in Varberg too.

I will just have to trust my mind to bring all the puzzle-pieces together 🙂

Discussion with Eddie Obeng and Daniel Pink #Blogg100

I found a new great podcast [What Podcast do you listen too?]

Found a new Podcast today: London Real. There are 2 great episodes with Eddie Obeng and Daniel Pink. They are available on iTunes and Youtube as well (See Below).

Eddie Obeng on London Real

Eddie Obeng on London Real

Imagine the Fish [Problem finders and Thinkers]

Eddie is an educator that’s educate organizations on how to get along in the “New World”. He doesn’t tell people what to do. He teaches them to figure out what to do. The old saying “Give a man fish” doesn’t apply anymore. Here is Eddies modified variant.

Teach a man how to learn how to fish and he may also learn how to hunt, farm, produce works of art or cook.
Teach a man how to teach others to fish and you feed the village and then the world. And for you, again for 2013 and onwards I now say – First, IMAGINE A FISH. — Eddie Obeng

In the Old World your boss was someone who had done your job along time ago and know how to do it. But now everything has changed. Now your boss must help you facilitate you doing stuff that he has just a vague idea of how to do.

Daniel Pink I have to talk to before in Life’s a pitch [How you can “Sell” and Persuade better].

Psilocybin [One of Hive-Switch Tiggers]

Also check  out Dr. Robin Carhart-Harris talking about the effects of Psilocybin & MDMA and how they could be used to help with depression and addiction, his controversial colleague Professor David Nutt who claimed Cannabis & Ecstasy were safer & less addictive than Alcohol & Tobacco.

Psilocybin is one of the triggers that switches on the Hive-Switch in your brain that Jonathan Haidt talks about.

Other great Podcasts[What is your inspiration podcasts?]

Other great podcasts that inspire me is of course The RSA that I have talked about before on my Inspiration Lists. What make The RSA so great is the fact that after a person have given their presentation there is a short conversation follow by live question from the audience and Twitter. So that it becomes a dialog instead.

Other interesting podcasts is TED Radio Hour and HBR Podcast.

Gaming and Swedish

For eSports I currently listen to LowElo for League Of Legends.

I also listen regularly to 3 Boardgame podcasts. The Dice Tower, The D6 Generation and Ludology.

[SWE] In Swedish I listen to Nördsnack, Gott prat, Maktministeriet och Klotet.

Listen to more enriching PodCasts. What have I missed?

The Great Masquerade [We Must Change the Game!]

This is part of my series of The Game of Life: The Great Masquerade. Where I share my thoughts about how we can change all the “Games” we are playing in our societies. How can we make the Games more co-op. And what defines that you “Win” in life. Please feel free to share your thoughts.

Masquerade Revange

Masquerade in Revenge

What masks are you wearing? [Know thyself]

Have been seeing the Masquerade episode of Revenge tonight. It’s a very Meta since Amanda Clark are in fact playing a role herself all the time Masquerading as Emily Thorne.

All too often, we mask the truth in artifice, concealing ourselves for fear of losing the ones we love or prolonging a deception for those we wish to expose. We hide behind that which brings us comfort from pain and sadness or use it to repel a truth too devastating to accept. — Emily Thorne

When thinking of yesterdays post about Empathy I directly connect today’s post to the roleplaying part. What roles do we play in all social situations? Even if “You” aren’t doing anything your subconscious brain is full at work with fitting you in to your current tribe. Some are bad and others are very good at this Social Game that our brains play for or with us. Vanity is born into us.

Let the Masquerade commence [Who are you playing?]

They say that Life is defined by the roles we play. And if you joined us this hallowed evening, it can only mean you’ve played them well.
So Tonight leave your identities at the door, let our spirits inspire yours and may your ornate facades lead you to intrigue.
Let the Masquerade commence — Victoria Grayson

Even if you are trying to project your true self on the world you are still perceived through filters of reality when in contact with other persons.  You can never leave The Matrix.

Every human being has the responsibility to find the truth for one selfRainn Wilson

But when living in The Matrix we all have the responsibility to find and know our True Self. When you know thyself it is much easier to project your own Residual Self Image. All your actions is a form of Storytelling you do to portray that image. And even your own brain is telling this story for you. Start listening to what really is happening. Then you can get a chance of help the direction of your own actions. But remember that you only project yourself through the interfaces of your own body. Here modern media like the written langue and recently recorded audio and video has greatly increased our way to communicate our true self into the world. But it is still only a crude image.

There are countless ingredients that make up the human body and mind.
Like all the components that make up me as an individual with my own personality.
Sure, I have a face and voice to distinguish myself from others.
But my thoughts and memories are unique only to me.
And I carry a sense of my own destiny.
Each of those things are just a small part of it.
I collect information to use in my own way
All of that blends to create a mixture that forms me and gives rise to my conscience.
I feel confined, only free to expand myself within boundaries. — Major Motoko Kusanagi

Train your Empathizing skills #Blogg100

The Empathy Revolution [Let us Reach out across Space & Time]

Know thyself to get along with others better

We are not the self-interested creature with selfish genes that many have lead us to believe. According to the latest science we are all born highly emphatic. And it’s a skill that we can train all our life. Get to know your inner self to see what masks you are wearing and how you play the Great Masquerade.

RomanKrznaric

I stumbled upon a RSA Animate that I have missed from last years RSA events. RSA Animate – The Power of Outrospection. And the full audio Podcast. It’s with Roman Krznaric who talks about how we can get more Empathy in our society. Here it is at the RSA: The Six Habits of Highly Empathic People

Train your Empathizing skills

Yes! It is possible and you should do some of this exercises every week. Also check out this Article about it: Six Habits of Highly Empathic People.

Habit 1: Cultivate curiosity about strangers

Highly emphatic people (HEPs) have an insatiable curiosity about strangers. Challenge yourself to have an interesting conversation each week with a stranger.

Habit 2: Challenge prejudices and discover commonalities

The fact is that as a Human being you have far more in common than not with every other human being on the planet. Challenge your prejudices by searching for what you share with other people rather than what differs between you. Talk to the Elephant and find Common Ground. Like I discuss in my blog Why are we so Groupish?

Habit 3: Get into “extreme sport” of experimental empathy

Try living another persons life. Try Live Action Role Playing (LARP) as another person that are living in another culture or in a different time. Go live in a village in a different country. Or do a “God Swap” if you are religious.

This is the most rewarding but also the hardest way to train to become a HEP. Here we can also roleplay meeting our own future generations and explain our actions to them. Or just maybe Future ME will have something to say about my own actions today. Go ahead. Look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself.

“Hello Future Me! What will I think of my actions today?”

Hello Future Me!

Hello Future Me!

Roman Krznaric thinks we should get a Empathy Museum where you can go and have empathy experiences. What is it like to work under sweatshop conditions or in a plantation where they grow our food?

Habit 4: Practice the art of conversation

We must practice and listen to what is really going on emotionally in another persons life. Then we open up and exposes our own personal feelings. Removing our masks. I did this at my latest session in during WebCoast. See it here in Swedish

Habit 5: Inspire mass action and social change

We need make an emphatic mass-change to our whole society. One way to do this is to start with out children. We need to teach them empathy. Talk to them about morality and what consequences our actions and behavior has on others.

Empathy should be at the heart of our Social, Economic and Political decisions. Funny enough this correlates to the three games I came up with in my Game of Life blog. We must change this 3 global games so that “winning” in them means doing good.

Game of Social – Game of Money – Game of Power

Here we are still waiting to see what emerging effects Social Media and The Network Society can have. But if we are to believe thinkers like Don Tapscott it will bring about many exiting changes if we work hard and let it.

Habit 6: Develop an ambitious imagination. Become “Outrospective”

This is the Hardest Challenge of the all. To empathize with the “Enemy”. With those who think differently. We must stop Demonizing them and get under their skin instead. Especially those in Power. If we can understand how the leaders of worlds largest companies and our politicians are thinking we can more easily affect them and make them change course.

Here bureaucracy is a great roadblock to Empathy. And we must think of new ways to get around it.

Working good ethics into the core of companies modus operandi is essential making this world work in the long run. It has already started with companies that does Social Good and with Social Entrepreneurs.  But we have a long way to go still.

Do Good Shit! — Alex Bogusky

Teaching our children more Empathy [We can all get better]

If we start early it will be much easier to be good at this skill. Although it is never to late for any of us.

We should be teaching this in every school all over the world. And we should be talking about it in every organization. Practice it on a weekly or daily basis. We must reach out across Space & Time!

What are our core values? And how should we reach them today and tomorrow?

How do you play? [What is a win in your life?]

Life is a game our brain plays from cradle to cradle. Within that game there are many smaller games that we play along the way. Let’s find out more about how I think the game is played. I call the game: The Great Masquerade. What does it take to “Win” in this game and life. Please feel free to share your thoughts.

Doing storytelling together [The way it has always been]

Tonight I had some of my closest friends over for dinner. But that wasn’t the main event for the evening. Later where where going to see the season 3 premier of Game of Thrones together. This event has been eagerly awaited by millions of fans all over the world. It has been promoted, discussed, hyped and analyzed. Much of it is made possible now thanks through the power of Social Media. It’s a fantastic new world we are living in already. Where the spread of ideas and discussion of them now transcends most old world barriers. And we are seeing just the beginnings of what we humans are capable of building together.

But what what of the actual event? As much as we now have started doing things together over social media there is matching for the experience of doing things together in the flesh world. Where we can smell “The pig shit” on each others. It’s was like we used to do it in the old-old world. It is a classic storytelling event around the campfire. We where all watching and cheering like children together. And after the story came to and end we instantly wanted more and started to discuss it.

dragons

Here be Dragons [Or what do you wish for?]

What is so fascinating about Game of Thrones? Here is my take on it. It uses classic storytelling of protagonists and antagonists. But just when you think you know the hero from the villain something happens that cast a shadow on someone’s motives. Or the supposed true hero suddenly dies. It is similar to our world but is clearly on another planet with much weirder turn of seasons. And here clearly are magic that contradicts our scientific view of the world. And yet we all buy it like children in front of the fire. Like we are supposed to.

The art of Storytelling itself is done with such love of the craft. On a such a mastery level that you are left sometimes speechless after a viewing.

This is easily the best Storytelling I have ever experienced.

And the Game of Thrones the Music is one of the best ever made.

Life is a Game

Life is a game [The 3 major games humans play]

And what about the moral of the story? What are we supposed to take with us? This is just what storytelling is about. Conveying morals and teaching us stuff. Don’t you ever think that stories are just silly tales for children or a temporary distraction from what is real in life. Then you have not been listening. Stories is the very way your brain runs. All your conscious thoughts are just a story your brain is telling for you. Your Story as I write in my blog.

So for me it is easy. Life is a Game with lots of PERMA in it. There are 3 games we play on our planet. They are:

Game of Social

Society is a big game. A game of social understanding, belonging and fitting in. To befriend everyone and to be popular. Most of us play this game within the current tribe(s). But for some chosen few it’s a game on a world stage. We all play it. For many it is a hidden game that the subconscious brain plays without us knowing it.

But some play it on a very conscious level. Some play it in the old world where many people still live. There it is a game of climbing social ladders. Where you play it with the other “players”.

Others play it in the new world, where it’s a game of flourishing in social networks. To do Social Good. And get the recognition for it. Here Social Media is a great tool to help you along. But don’t forget meeting all your contacts in person where the real magic is happening.

Let’s do Social Good!

Train your Empathizing skills and Join the Masquerade.

Game of Money [And Status]

This is the game that most people play. Most play it to keep their family fed, safe and happy. But there is large scale game of money that just escalates every year. More and more are getting into the game and stakes is getting higher every year. We will probably not stop playing this game in the foreseeable future. But we must change the rules. It’s already out of hand. Much because so much of the game is hidden or many steps removed from common life.

We must make the game transparent and we must change the victory condition for what a winning hand looks like.

We already know that once you have enough money giving you more money will not make you smarter or more creative. And you will not be happier. Quite often the opposite. It’s the innate feeling of belonging and status that trigger the hunt for money and what it buy us. Generating money by using money is a game in it self that triggers many game mechanics that reward us for our behavior.

Here we can change what gives us status and belonging to groups by making our actions open and transparent. When we can see what people spend their money on we can highlight what is important in life. We can give credits to people that does Social Good. In a modern designer boardgame money is usually just a mean to get you Prestige- and Victory-points.

We must change what gives Prestige-points in our society and life.

Game of Power

I have a previous blog about the Game of Power. Go on and read it! Instead of trying to gain power on the cost of others. We can make the game about who can pull with the greatest power towards a common goal.

Who can show the biggest Power of Strength?

“As we learn more about our own nature we can embark on a journey into our own soul. To play this new game of Power. Just like the stars in our Galaxy we can play this as collaborative game where everyone wins. Where we all pull together in the same direction. Just imagine what force we can amass when we pull together.” – @LordSillion

Wanna piece of me? [I melt for no one!]

My M&M Mugs

My M&M Mugs

When I walk into M&M’s store on Times Square in New York and saw these mugs I just know I had 2 get them. What mugs or glasses we drink our brewages from has hug impact how we experiences the taste of them. As Dan Ariely has shown in his studies. When I saw the huge Red Round Mug in front of me. It instantly reminded me of my red mug I used to have as a child. I also love the round form with the thick walls that will keep my Tea or hot Chocolate warm for long while drinking. I was instantly sold to me. And it made such a great couple with the green one as well.

Gamer slang

There are also 2 great quotes inside the mugs. “Wanna piece of me?” and “I melt for no one!”. Today (11 am) I started my day where I left it early this morning (6 am). Meeting people and playing boardgames at the gaming convention Gothcon in Sweden. When we sit down and play games in the hallways and the classrooms at Hvitfeldtska High-school many people walk by or stay and watch the games. A few of them commented on the language we where using. We use a lot of gamer slang, friendly thrash talk, and a lot of Swinglish words.
“Iskallt” [Ice cold] comes to mind when someone pulls off a daring move.

It’s just how we gamers roll

Imperial

Imperial gaming

In a hallway I came across some people playing one of my all time favorite boardgames: Imperial. I noticed that they used the Nobish Investor card variant. So I asked if they have played allot. 3 where beginners a one guy had played it around 10 times. He didn’t even know that there where a better variant of the game designed for real gamers. So they where really glad when I explained how the game was supposed to play. I also noticed that there where no flags in the ocean areas. This was a ruled I remember that we also missed on our very first play thinking that you only got points for the land areas.

I watched them for a while pointing out moves and strategies each and every one could make. Then they cheered me on my merry way. It is always such a powerful feeling you get when hanging out with gamers and helping each other. That’s what I like the most of gaming convention like Gothcon or PAX. The Positive vibe you get from meeting most people here.

International TableTop Day

Today is also International TableTop Day all over the world. And that is so fitting here in Sweden with Gothcon and all. Speaking of Gothcon and mugs and all … Like many Conventions here in Sweden, Gothcon has a special mug printed every year that you buy too get free Tee and Coffee throughout the Convention. Being a Mug Lover myself, I of course have to collect them all.

God night everyone and play more games “Together” face to face drinking your favorite brewages from your favorite mugs 🙂
