Life is a Trap #Blogg100

It’s a Trap … Life is a Trap … Let’s Get Caught Together ūüėČ

How do you embrace life and the hand that you have been dealt? What plays can you make? Can you swap cards? Is it a team game? What Defines a Win?

What is important? [And why don’t we do it then?]

I have previously talk about that Life is a Game in my series The Great Masquerade. Hell it’s even my life motto. And I got to put it on my Game of Thrones House banner:

Life is a Game

Life is a Game

But if we where the clear-headed gamers that could analyse every move before we make them. And then make the¬†most rationalized logical move to further our agenda and score. Then life would look very different indeed. Why can’t we do that? I say it’s because life is different kind of game.

Anyone can be an Agent of Change.
Every action changes something.
Choosing to do nothing is an active choice.
Jody Williams

Don’t grow up! It’s a Trap!

Yes Do Grow Up [Let’s get a Self-Transforming Mind]

Yes we do need to grow up. But not in the old boring way the old world think about it. But to get what Robert Kegan calls The Self-Transforming Mind. He gives an excellent talk about it on the RSA : The Further Reaches of Adult Development: Thoughts on the ‚ÄėSelf-Transforming‚Äô Mind.

Yes. At our current way in society only 1% of us, at the most, will reach this level around when they hit level 40. So herein lies a great challenge. We need to grow up. We need to grow up like never before to reach this level of mind and thinking.

As I see it, humanity‚Äôs greatest challenge in a globalized world can be put very simply: ‚ÄúHow can we learn to live in each other‚Äôs backyards?‚ÄĚ For the first time in the history of our species, a globalized world confronts us with a task for which a collection of Socialized Minds is inadequate. Such a complex challenge is unlikely to be met solely through better leadership, policies, or technology. I believe that it must be met through more complex thinking, and that responsibility is up to all of us. —¬†Peter W. Pruyn

Life is trap in the sense that we can only go forward. Don’t cling on to the past and the olden ways of system thinking. Let’s embrace a whole new level of our minds — Lord Sillion

Family – Tribe – Faith – Planet

#004 [IV]
Building our own social tribe [What is Work?]

You may have seen the movie A Few Good Men with Jack and Tom. In it you can hear a Marine recite the USMC code saying:
“Unit, Corps, God, Country.”
This is of course the wrong one as the real one is God, Country, Corps. But the first one makes more sense according to how we humans work. It’s like the old Arab saying:
Me and my brother against my cousins, me and my cousins against the village, me and my village against the tribe, me and my tribe against the rest of the world

We will probably not be ONE Country here on Earth with just one tribe, the earthlings, in the foreseeable future. We will have to do with many small tribes. But what we can do is make sure that we are all on the same global quest. To make our Planet Earth a place where we can live and evolve for many million of years to come. We now have the tools to do this in our new Network Society.

We must become Makers of our own fortune. But we mustn’t do this alone. We can now do it together with friends, family and even people on the other side of Earth. We can’t all be Entrepreneurs and not all Entrepreneurs are doers. But most of us are born Social. And we need to build a strong social world around us. Where we share our stuff and help those who didn’t make it. That is why I suggest new code:

Family – Tribe – Faith – Planet

Family [Blood or Imprinted]

Many of us stick to our Family Life out. Our closet family can be by blood or by design. But The Nuclear Family that has been the design in the resent 100 years after the great wars is not the way to go into the future. We are now in position to choose our extended family and I think we are beginning to thanks to the Networked Society.

Tribe [Join or Create Your Tribe]

Join a tribe. It is now more than ever possible to join or create your own tribe. Internet and Social Media has made it very easy to find your own kind. People how has the same interests or set of beliefs or burns for the same passion. Seth Godin also talk more about the modern tribes and how to create them.

Faith [We Who Believe in The Future]

Start a new Religion. Renowned philosopher Alain de Botton argues that despite the falsity of supernatural claims of religion, they still have very important things to teach the secular world.

Yes I too think our society has become visionless. It’s all about your own personal pleasure. We need a better community and we need something to work together towards. We need to start doing things together that matters.

Planet [Earth our Mothership]

We all live on a Spaceship. And we need to be reminded of that on a daily basis. This is our only home. But no one is acting like it. We expect someone else take on the challenges mankind faces. If we plan to make Planet Earth a permanent home for the human race it must present en every action we take and all plans we make for the future. Not just shortsighted plans for the coming year on how to make profit for our Company or our Nation State. We must have a global vision for Life on Planet Earth.

“When the smoke clears and you get right down to it, only three things really matter: your faith, your fortitude, and your family. Good night” — Jim Profit

Why do you work? [I am an agent of change]

I have also been seeing the latest video from Stefan Hyttfors in Swedish: Social¬†Capitalism.¬†It’s a very insightful video about why we must all¬†redefine:

Why we Work
How we Work
What we should be Working With

We have now reached the end of growth. But yet politicians still lie and do nothing about it. You must find what you are good at and have a passion for.  And hopefully we will get paid enough by doing it.

I am an agent of change. I’m in the middle of changing myself and want to work with helping others to change and build this new¬†society¬†together.

Starcraft and League on the same time

Yesterday and today I have been watching Dreamhack Open Starcraft eSports on National Swedish Television. At the same time League Of Legends [LoL] Spring series have been running their finals both in Europe and North America. Today Sunday saw some epic matches with all matches being played both in Eu and NA. You can find all the Grand finals matches here:

Fnatic vs. Gambit Gaming – EU LCS finals Game 1, Game 2, Game 3, Game 4, Game 5

Team Solo Mid vs. Good Game University  РNA LCS Finals Game 1, Game 2, Game 3, Game 4, Game 5

The level of the play and the skill and engagement of the commentators have really step up this spring. They have really made it to an entertainment sport to watch and get exited about. BarCraft is really taking of here in Sweden and me and my brother are looking into having a LoL Bar where we show League Of Legends eSport.

The Age of Storytelling [We are the Pan Narrans]

We are living in the age of Storytelling. Never before has we been surrounded by so much storytelling. I just love to engulf myself in a good TV-Series. And now Storytelling is even becoming a thing when building you personal brand or in marketing. In a sort this blog is my Storytelling about who I am and what want to do with my life.

I usually see some TV-Series before blogging each night to get my brain spinning. Some of my current favorites include Game of Thornes, Revenge, Suits, The Borgias, Americans, Boss, House of Cards, The Newsroom, The Walking Dead, Vampire Diaries and Continuum.

If you have not read Jonathan Gottschall’s The Storytelling Animal yet you must do this. It’s available as a free audio book as well if you sign up for Audible.com using this link: www.audibletrial.com/D6G

Be a Social Superhero [Solve our life’s puzzles together]

Today I have been at Social Media Club and a TweetUp in Gothenburg. Then I finished of by seeing Iron Man 3 with my best friend Tom.

The Social Media Club in Gothenburg is driven by @MikuMaria and it’s a fantastic way to meet & greet social people and discuss interesting topics during the lunch hour. Everyone is exceedingly open and friendly just like at the Unconferences WebCoast and SSWC.

Build your personal brand online [Have a Strategy behind your actions]

The subject of today’s Social Media Club was How to use Social Media to get a new Job. It’s a very interesting subject as I am in need of new job my self. Moderator is Johannes Sundlo.

Some key points:

  • Set up a Strategy for what you want and can do.
  • Everything you do in Social Media. Especially in the public ones. Adds up to your personal brand online. The Story about you.
  • Staying on a job should be an active choice every day.
  • Be yourself. We are all humans.
  • Check out what your target job places are doing. Try to find common ground with them.
  • Contact your target personally by phone or direct contact.

Check out some Swedish blogs and the Swedish Bambuser video here: Söka jobb via sociala medier

Tweeeet, Meeeet and Haaaangout

After a very relaxing Energy Consultation and Massage at Energik√§llan, it was time for a TweetUp. A Tweetup is an event where people who speak on Twitter come together to meet in person. Usually it’s a very social event with people who really want to get together and chat about life in general or a specific subject that they have previously talked about online. Never pass up the chance to be social. This is how we build our new Network Society.

I have also been doing some Google Hangouts lately. This is great way to discuss an interesting subject online with people who you can’t meet in person with at the moment. It can be done at home with your favorite device or on the move somewhere with a decent internet connection. Video can be turned of if the bandwidth is too low. I do a regular Hangout with Johan Lange where we check in about how our life plans are going towards a “Leaner” tomorrow ūüôā

Try to find others online that you want to talk to and invite them to join a Hangout.

IRON-MAN-3

Weld me together [All my parts must interconnect]

The evening finale took place in Never Never Land. The latest of Marvel’s movies is Iron Man 3. As you can tell from my blog I am a big Marvel Fan. The Avengers was my favorite Movie from 2012 and I’m a big fan of Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man. So I really had my hopes up for this movie. Tony Stark represents the Super Maker and Tinkerer we all look up to, part of him based on Elon Musk. It is far from a perfect Movie, but it does provide some thoughts about pursuing a True Purpose in life.

Find an Honorable path and stay True to it’s Purpose

Solve our life’s puzzles together [No one is alone anymore]

Life is a puzzle. I need you to put my pieces together and I will help you solve your puzzle. We don’t have to go through life’s journey alone. Start hooking up online in Social Media. Create places like Tweetups and Hangouts where you can meet and discuss life’s challenges and opportunities together. No one is alone anymore.

Let’s be Social Superheroes!

What Survival Skills Do You Got? [Can We Adapt to a Ruined World?]

Tonight I have been at the season finale of Doc Lounge here in Varberg. This is concept where you mingle together in a lounge with bar and then watch a documentary together. This time they where showing the Norwegian documentary North of the Sun. Here you can see a 6 seconds Vine of the event.

When does change become the new Normal? [What is Normal?]

Here is is part of one of my favorite quotes from the book Hogfather by Terry Pratchett

STARS EXPLODE, WORLDS COLLIDE, THERE’S HARDLY ANYWHERE IN THE UNIVERSE WHERE HUMANS CAN LIVE WITHOUT BEING FROZEN OR FRIED, AND YET YOU BELIEVE THAT A … BED IS A NORMAL THING. IT IS THE MOST AMAZING TALENT. — DEATH, Hogfather

The Movie North of the Sun is about making a decision about living under extreme circumstances to the point where it almost becomes Normal. It’s like Terry says. We have this amazing talent to adapt. To think of and see things as normal. I read somewhere that it takes about 3 months to make something a new Normal.

With this in mind could you step away from your house and your possessions and never look back? What would it take?

These Surfers in the Movie did it. And we maybe will have to do some day too.

The Blue Ocean Planet [Lets go Blue]

In Star Wars, our planet would be designated not as a desert nor as a forest planet, but as a water planet. In media we are constantly label things that is good for the environment as Green when we instead should label things as Blue. Lets go Blue!

In North of The Sun they spend their winter picking 3 ton of plastics of the beach. We have filled our oceans with it and that is just a small part of it. We are spewing out chemicals like never before. And the rate is going up not down. You would think that in the year 2013 we where on our way to make Earth a better place to live at. Not so. Our Homeworld is getting more toxic for each day. Yet stuff like this doesn’t make the daily news like it should. If the oceans go…. so does the test of us. No kidding.

There is new Documentary just hitting DVD now and that is the movie Planet Ocean and there is new ¬†documentary showing on cinemas in¬†Canada¬†now called¬†Revolution Movie. Both is about our destruction of our oceans. Se the Trailers below. They may contain spoilers… But there is really nothing to spoil.

Think of our Blue Planet as one big Generational Spaceship where we must make sure that is all working well for generations to come.

It’s not to late. We can build a new world with a new “Normal” way to live.

Blue Planet

It will take Change [And big change come about in 3 ways]

1. Catastrophe
2. Crusade
3. Many fast iterating steps

Our Road has come to an end and we must now take 1 or some of this 3 roads weather we like it or not. What route do you want to take?

Route 3 must begin today.
Route 2 we can take tomorrow after a good nights sleep.
And finally Route 1 is waiting just around the corner with a big knife in it’s hand.

Here you can read all about how we must think to change routes:

My First Social Media Experience

Hong Kong Harbor 1994

Me in Hong Kong Harbor 1994

I speak Internetz [What was yours?]

It was 20 years ago in 1993. I was studying entrepreneurship [Utvecklingsingenjör] at Halmstad University. We decided that we should go to Hong Kong and China for our graduation trip. Having just discovered internet myself took it upon me to make a contact in Hong Kong before the trip. Using the Mosaic Web browser I found the Hong Kong University website and an email address. I mailed them and asked for a contact person. They replied with contact email to student there.

The Scotsman

I stared trading email with a Scotsman studying there and it was very exiting for me at the time. I was a really shy person back then and found it difficult to speak with anyone I didn’t know. So this new way of communicating really changed things for me.

Finally I had found voice I was comfortable speaking in. I speak Internetz

Unfortunately I never got to meet the Scotsman. Some time before we where going there he had to go home for¬†some family business. But he did pass the torch to a Chinese girl studying there, who I took up email-contact with. So when getting there I had got a phone-number and made a date to meet us at the hotel where we staying. With great excitement she showed up. She invited us with her family to a local restaurant where they had no experience meeting Europeans before. They¬†teached us how to eat with sticks and all the local Chinese customs when eating. We got served some Chinese beer in really small glasses. When we wanted more than one glass the girl came to us and said that her father was really worried. He had heard some crazy stories of drunken Europeans getting drunk and loosing control. We told them that there was really nothing to worry about unless they served us much, much more beer ūüôā

She also told us that he was really worried. Because it was custom for him to pay for the food for all of us. We assured him that it was really ok in this instance to break the tradition and let us pay for ourselves. And we did have really good use of everything they taught us for the rest our trip in Hong Kong and our 4 day visit to China and Guangzhou [Canton].

Social Media Evolution [Me becoming a Futurist]

Social Media has come a long way since 1993. But for me my world changed back then and it has continued to change ever since. In 1996 we started to chat and build scripts in IRC using the mIRC client. And I started using ICQ. I was instantly hooked. From here on I started exploring all internet communication tools as they came.

mirc

With the vision of the movie Ghost in the Shell in mind I now begun thinking of the future almost every day to come. The Futurist in me was born. In spirit of this I started arranging Future and Cyber Parties in the 90-ties.

All things change in a dynamic environment [Your effort to remain the same is what limits you]

The Network Society is now a real thing happening around us.

You’re talking about redefining my identity.
I want a guarantee that I can still be myself.
There isn’t one. Why would you wish to?
All things change in a dynamic environment.
Your effort to remain the same is what limits you.
But you still haven’t answered my earlier question.
Why did you pick me?
Because we are more alike than you realize.
We resemble each other’s essence, mirror images of one another’s psyche.
Listen. I am connected to a vast network…
that has been beyond your reach and experience.
To humans, it is like staring at the sun,
a blinding brightness that conceals a source of great power.
We have been subordinate to our limitations until now.
The time has come to cast aside these bonds…
and to elevate our consciousness to a higher plane
It is time to become a part of all things. — Ghost in the Shell, 1995

What do you think about? [What is your experience?]

Envision our Journey towards a Better Tomorrow #Blogg100

Where are our journey going? [Core Values, Vision and Mission]

Today I have been listening to Percy Barnevik on Connect V√§st. He is talking about how to be a great leader and his work in the micro credit organization Hand in Hand. Apart from having one of the most entertaining presentations I’ve been to there is something missing. More on that in a moment.

Percy Barnevik

Percy Barnevik

Why are we doing our Journey?
Where is it going?
And how do we travel today?

After him Björn Lindqvist talks about what shall be found in the heart of any organization:

Core Values — Why are we working here? Today we must all weave in socially responsible values in our hearts. That defines the Journey we are taking together.

The Vision — A Mental Picture – of what an organization wants to achieve over time. The North Star! The direction of our journey.

The Mission — The current Quest that we are doing in order to further us along on our journey.

Check out more here: Vision and Mission – What’s the difference and why does it matter? and Mission Statements and Vision Statements.

Can we all be like Google?

The day finishes up with Annika Steiber that have been studying innovation management and what make companies like Google tick. They need to have

Ethics — Don’t be Evil and Do Good for Society.
Ambition — Shoot for the Stars and Change the World.
Behavior – The organization need to be Fast and Scalable. Never to bog down under Bureaucracy and Hierarchy.
Focus — First make a good product then the money will come.

Sustainability Day [Tax resources and not labor]

At the same time Sustainability Day is going on in Stockholm and #SDay are also trending on Twitter at the same tame as #ConnectDagen.

Here the chief economic analyst at the Think tank Global Utmaning, Sandro Scocco, says all the numbers are pointing in the wrong direction. We need change the economic incentives to make things happens. The suggest the same as Geoff Mulgan did in his speech at the RSA.

Tax¬†resources¬†and not labor. In that way everyone will quickly come with smart reusing with what we got. Companies can start rent everything they produce instead of selling it. So that they take full responsibility for the lifecycle. And it’s in their own best interest that all things made is made to endure.

We need to cross-fertilize¬†[Let’s create new meeting places]

Here I also see the second problem opportunity. All the money and entrepreneurs are one event in Gothenburg at the same time as all the scientist and the creative thinkers are at another event in Stockholm. And this are not the same people with the same networks. I know because I have been to both. Here my idea is to create an event where the two worlds can meet. An unconference with focus the social and the Networking. To create new exiting enterprises.

A Vision is something you can Envision. To picture in your mind. This is because sight is our primary sensory system. The brain tries to imagine what it will envision next. Then it asks the eyes if this is the correct vision.

A vision is complex picture in your mind. Let’s create one to be proud of together ūüôā

Here politicians, venture capitalists, scientist and entrepreneurs must create this vision of the future together.

3D-printed LunarBots

Today was the last Day of NASA’s Space Apps Hackaton. The largest in the world with 9000 participants. We finished making a prototype of our boardgame including 3D-printed LunarBots. Jens took a 20 minute course in Maya and learned how to make a basic 3D-models. And I learned how to make a Stop Motion presentation movie ¬†with 144 frames using the simple app iMotion HD.

Generations to come [What must they think of you?]

What I learned from the day is that we do this for our children. Let’s all think of and be like our children. With this being a space weekend we of course had to listen to some space music. And there is only one space music band for me: S.P.O.C.K. My favorite to songs is Dark Side of the Force and Wolf in the Fold.

Bu the song we feature here is the very striking All the Children Shall Lead.

I’m sitting in my quarters aboard the ship
thinking about this very special trip

400 people, destiny: our closest star
mankind has never ever been that far
Soon comes the future, then we will die
All the children shall lead
We’ll never see the world that lies ahead
long before we get there all adults will be dead

Then it is up to the kids we brought along
now they learn what is right and what is wrong
Soon comes the future, then we will die
All the children shall lead
As a bad example we show them how it used to be
before the year 2000 it was a total misery
Soon comes the future, then we will die
All the children shall lead

What path are you treading on? [Let’s craft a new path together]

Now is the time to invest in our children like never before. They must think us mad about the state we have left their Homeworld in. Change is happening all over the world. But in many places it is still on the wrong path. A path leading right of the edge of cliff. Are you on that path? If so you can help craft a new path for us and our children and their children’s children.

Life is about the journey and what we leave behind. What path do we chose to travel on?

If we teach our kids at a young age that don’t have to accept everything as it is happening to them. We can teach the to be curious about their own future. That they can be creative and design it them self. And spend their time crafting their own path.

We take our lifestyle for granted and think of it as the most natural thing in the world. That’s why we must study history. So that we can learn how different it was in the past. In this way we can see that the our future can be very different too in kind.

It only takes about 3 months for us humans to adapt to a new living condition to such a degree that we start thinking of it as “Normal”

Making a Boardgame about Moon Mining [Teaching with games in schools]

Today we started the NASA’s Space Apps Challenge. We are 8500 hackers around the Earth on the worlds largest Hackaton. First we had a Astronaut on ISS give us a welcome presentation. Then we sent out to face the challenges.

The Swedish Astronaut Christer Fuglesang will join us on Sunday as one of the judges.

Send me to the Moon [We’re Whalers of the Moon]

Me myself had no team so I teamed up with Jens Nockert to take on one of the 50 Challenges that NASA have issued. We took on Bootstrapping of the Space Industry¬†(#MoonVille). Check out the Google Hangout below for more information about the challenge. We are both gamers so we decided to make this game as a Boardgame called LunarBots. It’s about launching a self sustaining mining operation to the moon.

We think of it as a learning and inspiration game for school kids to be used in school. To get the interested in space exploration and the space industry. To start them think about building a sustainable future here on earth where they can be an active part. The game is also a logistics puzzle with some co-operation.

We had tour of Lindholmen Science Park where the challenge is being held here in Gothenburg, Sweden. We stopped by the Interaction Institute where they have a 3D-printer that we will be using to print our LunarBots in the game. Follow it on Twitter: #LunarBots.

Sharing is Caring [Let us all improve the future together]

The project is of course a open source project so that anyone can download the game and craft a own copy. They can also help improve, develop and play-test the game. As a game of this type requires allot of balancing and play-testing before it is done.

We also had a very interesting presentation on the work of the Interaction Institute by Peter Ljungstrand. He talked about all crazy real life experiments they are doing with technology and science. I also found out that my Boardgaming friend Staffan works there.
